The Rookie is actually much stronger than anything in the timeslot in a few years, definitely better than last year's show. It'll be renewed. Of course, as you said, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed for season 3.
Single parents has dropped to a 0.7. This does not bode well for WC. ABC literally saved AMLT by putting it after Grey’s.
That's still not as bad as The Rookie's lead in. If WC is as advertised, it's got one thing going for it -- a hook different from the 800 -- an exaggeration but there are a lot -- other currently airing law enforcement shows that are either ensemble or COTW. It reads as if WC is going to be built around the WTWT of two agents. I think WC's success rises and falls on whether there's still a big enough market for the "cop show surrounding a romance" model and whether the pairing has the "It factor" that makes people stick with that type of show beyond a couple of episodes.

Edit. I just wanted to add that ABC is giving WC the post-Oscar slot for the premiere on the 24th, and then airing episode 2 on the 27th. https://www.thewrap.com/whiskey-cavalie ... -2019-abc/ It's going to have the best lead-in shot ABC has to give, at least on day one.
I think the leads have chemistry and Lauren Cohen has a fan base from TWD.

But from what I have learnt in the last few months is that lead-in matters. So it could get a 0.8 or 0.9 for episode 2 after SP even if the 1st episode is huge thanks to the oscars.

CBS gave Magnum P.I. the post AFC championship slot. It got great ratings. But when it aired on its regular schedule on Monday, it was same old same old.

Well none of the other Castle clones have succeeded. I personally don’t find the WC promos very good. I’m not interested in watching. And I think I said before that Scott Foley in those promos looks like someone trying way too hard to do a Fillion imitation. And failing. He looks like he’s trying way too hard period.

I'll be happy to admit If I’m wrong, but I don’t see it doing very well. And a lot of those TWD fans Lauren has won’t have any interest in this type of show.

Also ABC has no ownership in WC so it won’t get the benefit of the doubt if ratings are poor, like in-house ABC Studios shows do.

A lot of the Moonlighting clones didn't succeed either, yet Castle did. Yeah, I'm sure Scott Foley, who has seen success in primetime romantic roles since his Felicity days in the late 90s, goes to work aiming to do his best Nathan impression :eyeroll: And as far as Lauren, I'm pretty sure her character in TWD was part of a drawn-out, generally well-liked ship. But people were probably just into that show for the undead factor. Give them romance in a show that is only about the living and they'll be like :barf:

I'm going to wait until the first episode airs to decide how I feel on the chemistry factor. Yes, I'll be watching. Don't worry, I'm not a Nielsen family so it won't matter.

I agree that lead-in matters, but I'm not sure whether Magnum P.I. is a great measuring stick for what something like the Oscars can do for a new show. Not only is Magnum P.I. a reboot of a popular older show, the reboot was out there 1/2 a season before it got its post-AFC championship boost, then returned to business as usual. With WC, the Oscar boost won't be coming mid-way through a season. It's going to be coming right at the beginning. I suspect ABC is going to be running ads through most of February, and hit the Oscar audience (over 26 million in 2018, at its lowest ever) with ads asking them to stay around after the Oscars for the premiere of a new show -- get in on the ground floor of this show, with no previous 10 or so episodes to add to your DVR or Hulu list. And to the people who still like to watch old school live tv, I think that matters. I also think that unlike other shows where a good pilot is important, but they have room to grow, this one's pilot will make or break it. It's in a better position than something like Magnum PI to bring people back for the next episode, but the substance of the first episode will need to be compelling enough for those live watchers to carve out space on Wednesday night. Won't know about that until I see it

Also on the competition front.

https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/a-mill ... 203116875/

I was wondering how long it would take AMLT and ABC to integrate real ads into it given Rome's profession as a commercial director. That question has been answered. Smart.

Just a quick question because I am curious. I know some here have said that you guys aren’t liking the show. So my question is do you guys want a season 2 or do you think it would be better if it gets cancelled after this season?

I think it will get a Season 2 for various reasons - they spent a lot of money promoting the show, they are spending a lot of money filming the show with location shooting, Mark Gordon is behind it, Nathan is staring. They may try moving it for Season 2. IMO the new character and the Kimmel appearance is being used to shake things up some to see if they can attract more viewers.

With that said, I like the show, but I am not in love with it. Some episodes I find very good, others don't keep my interest. I watch it every week live. I do watch NA On Demand, and I am finding myself more drawn to the show, story lines and characters. I will stick with The Rookie live, because, Nathan.

I think it will be renewed if the numbers stay the same, and I hope it does get a second season. I may not care for some aspects of the show, but I'm all for Nathan's success.

I wonder how many are just watching the show for Nathan even though they aren’t fans of the show? Count me on the ones who is watching just for Nathan. I liked the show during Fall. But I have got bored of it pretty quickly. I really liked the Grey-Nolan ride along though.

Do you think ratings will stay the same esp with American Housewife replacing Conners?

My prediction: 1.0/0.7/0.7/0.5/0.6

Hope I am wrong and it gets more than 0.6. But Conners won’t be there to boost the night and IMO that’s going to affect the ratings.

BTW AMLT continues to do well. 2nd episode also did 1.1. This is what you get when you give it a good compatible lead-in. If there’s a season 2,hope TR gets a great compatible lead-in as well.

That 0.63 is the second highest L+3 demo increase of the series, second only to an 0.66 increase for episode 1.06. It is also the highest L+3 demo percentage increase of the series at 93%. Previous high percentage increase was 90% for 1.07.

The L+3 total viewer percentage increase was also the high of the series.

I think that’s because it’s unrounded ratings were poor last week. It’s total 1.32 is lesser than the previous week which was 1.33. When the unrounded goes up and down, the DVR compensates a little but the end result is the same.
